SPOC FOOTBALL CLUB

CODE OF CONDUCT


This code of conduct applies to St Peters Football Club, its players, coaches, officials and supporters and those persons invited onto the grounds of the Club at St Peters College. The Club fully supports the codes of conduct for players, coaches, officials and supporters as introduced by St Peters College.


PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT


PLAYER ATTENDANCE


A-grade and B Grade players are expected at all training sessions and if unable to attend notify the coach must be informed prior. C grade are expected to train at least once per week, if this is not possible, players must inform coach of availability for Saturday game.

All players are expected at all Club functions including after match presentations and if unable to attend the coach must be informed prior. 


MATCH DAY DRESS


A-grade players must wear Club supplied merchandise which are available to purchase at heavily subsidized prices. All players are encouraged to wear Club merchandise. 


RESPECT FOR CLUB FACILITIES


Players should always understand and adhere to the SPOC/St Peters College Code of Conduct and Behaviour with respect to the St Peters College facilities, which is reproduced below. This includes making a reasonable effort to keep the Clubrooms, ovals and surrounds clean and tidy, not leaving it only to the volunteers.


RESPECT FOR STAFF- COMMITTEE, COACHES, TRAINERS AND PHYSIOTHERAPISTS


All players should behave respectfully towards the staff trainers and behave and talk appropriately in their presence.


VOLUNTEERING DUTIES


All players should fulfil their volunteer duty, as rostered by each team captain as required, with respect to setting up and cleaning up after home match days, assisting on the BBQ and canteen.


GENERAL BEHAVIOUR


Players should aspire to the highest standards of sportsmanship and professional conduct. Players should be aware of the traditions and history of the Club, and behave accordingly about displaying;

§  Sportsmanship

§  Respect for Umpires

§  Respect for opposition players and officials

§  Understand the rules and directions of the Adelaide Footy League (AdFL).

Players must conduct themselves in a manner so as not to bring Australian Rules football, the AdFL, Club or St Peters College into disrepute.  Inappropriate behaviour during games and while at the Club, including at Club functions and at the Club’s hotel, could result in the player being stood down from games, suspended or removed from the team or Club.

Examples of inappropriate behaviour which brings the code and the Club into disrepute may include;

§  Excessive and inappropriate swearing

§  Inappropriate heckling or sledging

§  Abuse directed at any official, player or spectator

§  Misuse of social networking sites, bullying players, criticising umpires or Club officials

§  Inappropriate behaviour as a result of excessive drinking of alcohol

§  Being under the influence of illegal drugs


PLAYING


Physical or verbal abuse directed at any official, player or volunteer during a fixture will not be tolerated. Inappropriate behaviour while playing could result in the player being stood down from games or suspended or removed from the team.


PLAYERS MUST:


§  Refrain from making any comment that vilifies or tends to vilify persons based on their race, religion, colour, sex, sexual orientation or other related characteristics

§  Act within the rules and spirit of Australian Rules football

§  Promote fair play

§  Encourage and support opportunities for people to learn appropriate behaviours and skills

§  Support opportunities for participation in all aspects of the sport

§  Treat each person as an individual

§  Show respect and courtesy to all involved with the sport

§  Respect the rights and worth of every person, regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion

§  Respect the decisions of officials, coaches and administrators

§  Display appropriate and responsible behaviour in all interactions

§  Display responsible behaviour in relation to alcohol and other drugs

§  Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions

§  Ensure your decisions and actions contribute to a safe environment

§  Do not tolerate abusive, bullying or threatening behaviour

 

SUBSTANCE ABUSE


The AFL illicit Drugs Policy and AFL Anti-Doping Code prohibit the taking of illicit and/or performance enhancing substances. It is the responsibility of players to report suspected illegal or inappropriate use or distribution of alcohol or drugs to the coach or Committee. Any player, coach or official found to be using or distributing illegal substances on the school grounds, premises of our sponsors or at any place or upon any occasion while they are representing the Club or may be identified as representing the Club will be immediately stood down until a police or Club investigation has been completed. St Peters Old Collegians Football Club has zero tolerance to the use or distribution of illegal substances; conviction or finding of guilt will result in immediate expulsion from the Club.


COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT


All Coaches must:

§  Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals within the context of their involvement in Australian Rules football, including refraining from any discriminatory practices on the basis of race, religion, ethnic background or disability

§  Abide by and teach the AFL Laws of the Game and the rules of the SAAFL

§  Be reasonable in the demands made on the time commitments of players, having due consideration for their health and well-being

§  Refrain from any form of personal abuse or unnecessary physical contact with the players

§  Recognise the significance of injury and sickness, and seek and follow advice from qualified health professionals about the return of injured or ill players to training and matches

§  Endeavour to keep informed of coaching and skill development, and of factors relating to the welfare of players

§  At all times display appropriate sporting behaviour and practice fair play

§  Reject the use of performance enhancing substances in sport and abide by the guidelines set forth in the AFL Drug Policy


SUPPORTERS CODE OF CONDUCT

 

§  Spectators must not approach the umpires under any circumstances.

§  Support your Club by maintaining the highest standard of spectator behaviour

§  Lead by example and respect all players, coaches, umpires and spectators – physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated

§  Reject the use of harassment, bullying or violence in any form, whether by other spectators, coaches, officials or players

§  Never use derogatory language based on race

§  Never ridicule mistakes or losses

§  Recognise the value and importance of volunteers and officials.


ST PETERS COLLEGE CODE OF CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOUR


This Code of Conduct and Behaviour applies to the members, players, coaches and supporters of the Club in accordance with the conditions and requirements of the Club's Agreement with the St Peters Collegians Association and St Peters College.


1.     MEMBERS CODE OF CONDUCT


1.1      RESPECT FOR FACILITIES


Members are to respect all facilities and property owned by any party. For example, this includes facilities and property owned by any party such as the away side, SPSC, another school, another player.


1.2      RESPECT FOR SUPPORT STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS


All members should behave respectfully towards the support staff and volunteers (i.e. trainers and physiotherapists) and be aware of appropriate language in their presence.


1.3      GENERAL BEHAVIOUR


Member should be aware of the traditions and history of the Club and SPSC, and behave accordingly demonstrating;

§  Sportsmanship,

§  Respect for Umpires

§  Respect for opposition players and officials


1.4      BEHAVIOUR


§  Members aspire to the highest standards of sportsmanship and professional conduct.

§  Players must conduct themselves in a manner so as not to bring the SPOC Club, SPSC or SPCA into disrepute.

§  Inappropriate behaviour could result in the member being stood down from games orsuspended from the team.

§  Examples of behaviour by members which brings the code and Club into disrepute may include:

  • Excessive and inappropriate swearing
  • Inappropriate heckling or sledging
  • Abuse directed at any official, player or spectator
  • Misuse of social networking sites, bullying players, criticising umpires or Club officials
  • Inappropriate behaviour as a result of excessive drinking
  • Instances where members attend the Club under the influence of illegal drugs

§  Respect the rights and worth of every person, regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion

§  Respect the decisions of officials, coaches and administrators

§  Display appropriate and responsible behaviour in all interactions

§  Display responsible behaviour in relation to alcohol and other drugs

§  Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions

§  Ensure your decisions and actions contribute to a safe environment

§  Do not tolerate abusive, bullying or threatening behaviour


1.7      SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Any member, player, coach or official found to be using or distributing illegal substances on the school grounds, premises of our sponsors or at any place or upon any occasion while they are representing the Club or may be identified as representing the Club will be immediately stood down until a police or Club investigation has been completed. So that there is no misunderstanding, the Club has zero tolerance to the use or distribution of illegal substances; no second chances will be given and conviction or finding of guilt will result in expulsion from the Club.


2.     COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT


All Coaches must:

§  Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals within the context of their involvement, including refraining from any discriminatory practices based on race, religion, ethnic background or disability.
